5.1 What are the most common reasons for failed calls?

Please make sure that Route is established. The area code is correct. The prefix removed by HostedSwitchsm from the number is set correctly. The Gateway that you use to send traffic is registered at HostedSwitchsm. Your firewall doesn't block the IP addresses of HostedSwitchsm and originating gateway. You did not change the configuration of your Gateway, network, billing system, or PSTN connection (if you did, please examine the changes as they may have influenced the interoperability with HostedSwitchsm). Other reasons not related to HostedSwitchsm are: the number being called is busy, the channel is overloaded, the caller hung up etc. Please check the Failed Calls tables for specific call details.

5.2 What are the columns labeled Final RV, Current RV and ISDN cause in the Failed Calls table?

RV is the internal HostedSwitchsm Return Value (operation completion code). Current RV is a return value for a separate route. Final RV is a return value for the last route in group and it means that there are no routes which a call can go through: for example you have three routes to USA destination. A call fails in the first route and goes to the second route and then to the third. In the failed calls column you will see Current RV 38 for the first route, Current RV 38 for the second and Final RV 6 and Current RV 38 for the third. The ISDN cause is the standard Q.931 cause (line disconnection reason), in hexadecimal format. After you rest your mouse pointer on RV or ISDN you will see a screen tip with necessary information. You can see the complete list of errors with actions to be taken.

5.3 What does 'call duration' mean for failed calls?

Duration for Failed calls refers to the time interval between the Setup message and the end of the call (Hangup message). E.g., if you see a 30 second failed call, with rv=22 'RELEASE COMPLETE from originating gateway' and ISDN cause =10 ' Normal call clearing', this means that the call was not answered by the destination party, and the originating user hung up after 30 seconds.
