3.1 What parameters should I specify when registering equipment?

Required equipment parameters are: description, IP address, SIP username (for SIP gateways), customer, number of voice ports for termination.

3.2 What do gateway parameters mean?

# of Voice Ports for Termination - total number of the gateway's voice ports dedicated to terminating calls from HostedSwitch^sm.

Description - a user-friendly description to better identify the gateway in the HostedSwitch^sm web interface.

GW IP Address - the gateway's IP address. To register a range of IP addresses please type in IP Range Start and IP Range End addresses (draw you attention to the fact that you cannot terminate calls to the range of IP addresses).

Prefix ( My Equipment Sends Group ) - the digits that will be automatically removed from the beginning of the numbers sent by this gateway to HostedSwitch^sm to determine the E.164 international phone number.

Prefix ( My Equipment Receives Group )- the digits that will be automatically added to the beginning of E.164 numbers sent to this gateway from HostedSwitch^sm. Please note that in addition to dialed prefixes, you can introduce more complex number translation rules. To set up such rules, use the gateway configuration commands or Translations tab in HostedSwitch^sm web-interface and/or contact HostedSwitch^sm Technical Support for assistance.

Username and Password ( My Equipment Sends group ) – these fields are necessary if you originate calls from a SIP equipment.

H.323 Call Mode ( My Equipment Sends and My Equipment Receives group ) – this parameter changes an existing call mode to mode you set here. Please do not change the value which is set by default.

3.3 Is there a limit of the number of devices I can register?

No, there isn't. You may register as many gateways and gatekeepers as you need.

3.4 Is there a way to translate phone numbers sent by/to my equipment?

Use the Prefix option to add/remove digits at the beginning of the number. If you need to enter more complex translation rules, please go to Translations Tab or contact HostedSwitch^sm Technical Support.

3.5 Can I limit the maximum number of calls placed on my terminating equipment?

Set the appropriate value for the '# of Voice Ports for Termination' parameter of the gateway.

3.6 Does HostedSwitch^sm recommend any specific software versions?

In general, it is recommended that you use the latest major release. For Cisco gateways, GD or LD releases are preferable (those which don't contain a capital letter in the version number).

3.7 Does HostedSwitch^sm convert Fast start with h.245 tunneling to Slow start?

Yes, HostedSwitch^sm can do this. Please set “slow start” value in to H.323 call mode field in “My Equipment Receives” group for the terminating equipment.
